Twin Talk – A peaceful nation
As we were growing up, our parents and teachers taught us that the founder of the Basotho nation was a great man of peace. And when we look back, we realize that during our upbringing, we lived through days of peace, where our parents would welcome guests from nowhere and everywhere, call upon relatives and friends for a meal or a celebration, and even extend a hand to help whenever they could. The taught us the culture of giving and appreciating other people. They taught us how to live harmoniously. Peacefully.
However, today we realize that different people perceive peace differently. One person exercises the noblest gestures with people they hardly know, yet they are ruthless with hatred to the closest people, especially those they are related to by blood. You find a person hardly talking to their family members, yet they portray the face of the kindest person on earth to strangers. And when it comes to in-laws, the strength of this hatred is shocking to the mind! You go to church and you find people “pretending” to be pure at heart, yet you’d literally be deaf the minute they spit something from their mouths which is a 180 degrees turn from what they claim to believe. And then you have colleagues who are ready to stab each other in the backs, friends who would stop at nothing to destroy each other…the list goes on and on and on!
September is the month of peace and as we all know that charity begins at home, let’s follow suit and start by being peaceful with the people closest to us. Then extend this peace to our neighbours. Then extend this peace to our friends, colleagues, and the entire nation. Yes people can disagree on some things, but that does not have to end in irreversible conflict. Let’s learn to forgive and move on. Let’s learn to love one another, and do to others what we would want them to do to us. Let’s enjoy a culture of peace and look forward to each following day. Let’s teach our children the “art” of living together harmoniously. Wear a white garment anytime during this month to feel the peace around you!
Until next month, enjoy your copy and let’s help each other to be FINITE in the interest of Lesotho, all over the world.
